Top 5 Friday: April 2016 Anticipations

Happy April Fools Day! Anyone changing their clocks yet…?

And welcome back to another Top 5 Friday! It’s April already, can you believe it?! So, I can’t see why we cannot start a new month with a new list of anticipating books that are PUBLISHED IN THE MATTER OF DAYS!!! I don’t know about you, but I’m excited…

So, hop on, peeps!

Arrow2 - CopyNumbers (2)The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi

Published Date: April 26, 2016

Genres: Fantasy, Mythology, Magic

Synopsis: Fate and fortune. Power and passion. What does it take to be the queen of a kingdom when you’re only seventeen?

Maya is cursed. With a horoscope that promises a marriage of Death and Destruction, she has earned only the scorn and fear of her father’s kingdom. Content to follow more scholarly pursuits, her whole world is torn apart when her father, the Raja, arranges a wedding of political convenience to quell outside rebellions. Soon Maya becomes the queen of Akaran and wife of Amar. Neither roles are what she expected: As Akaran’s queen, she finds her voice and power. As Amar’s wife, she finds something else entirely: Compassion. Protection. Desire…

But Akaran has its own secrets — thousands of locked doors, gardens of glass, and a tree that bears memories instead of fruit. Soon, Maya suspects her life is in danger. Yet who, besides her husband, can she trust? With the fate of the human and Otherworldly realms hanging in the balance, Maya must unravel an ancient mystery that spans reincarnated lives to save those she loves the most. . .including herself.

A lush and vivid story that is steeped in Indian folklore and mythology. The Star-Touched Queen is a novel that no reader will soon forget.

  • I don’t know about you, but when a book contains words like “horoscope”“mythology”“magic”, and “Indian folklore”, I would die to read it. Also, I’m still hung on the ending of The Wrath & the Dawn and all that king queen stuff, so I just cannot wait. Talk about The Wrath & the Dawn though…

Arrow2 - CopyNumbers (3)The Rose & the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh

Book #2 of The Wrath and the Dawn

Published Date: April 26, 2016

Genres: Fantasy, Retellings, Magic

Synopsis: I am surrounded on all sides by a desert. A guest, in a prison of sand and sun. My family is here. And I do not know whom I can trust.

In a land on the brink of war, Shahrzad has been torn from the love of her husband Khalid, the Caliph of Khorasan. She once believed him a monster, but his secrets revealed a man tormented by guilt and a powerful curse—one that might keep them apart forever. Reunited with her family, who have taken refuge with enemies of Khalid, and Tariq, her childhood sweetheart, she should be happy. But Tariq now commands forces set on destroying Khalid’s empire. Shahrzad is almost a prisoner caught between loyalties to people she loves. But she refuses to be a pawn and devises a plan.

While her father, Jahandar, continues to play with magical forces he doesn’t yet understand, Shahrzad tries to uncover powers that may lie dormant within her. With the help of a tattered old carpet and a tempestuous but sage young man, Shahrzad will attempt to break the curse and reunite with her one true love.

  • I crave this book, guys. I want to know what will happen. I want my questions to be answered. I want to do a lot of things when I get my hand on this (including wrapped myself in a comfy blankie and read it, of course). Though I’m not the number one fan of the cover….

Arrow2 - CopyNumbers (4)Water’s Wrath by Elise Kova

Book #4 of Air Awakens

Published Date: April 26, 2016

Genres: Elemental, Fantasy, Magic

Synopsis: Librarian turned sorcerer. Sorcerer turned hero. Hero turned puppet.

The Solaris Empire found victory in the North and, at the cost of her heart and her innocence, Vhalla Yarl has earned her freedom. But the true fight is only beginning as the secret forces that have been lurking in the shadows, tugging at the strings of Vhalla’s fate, finally come to light. Nowhere is safe, and Vhalla must tread carefully or else she’ll fall into the waiting arms of her greatest foe. Or former lover.

  • I’m having difficulties breathing… I WANT IT NOW! The worst part is that I missed the ARCs for reviewers that Elise Kova hosted at her website for ONE. FREAKING. HOUR! I mean, the chance of me being chosen is not that high, but still, one is better than zero.

Arrow2 - CopyNumbers (5)The Last Boy and Girl in the World by Siobhan Vivian

Published Date: April 26, 2016

Genres: Romance, Contemporary

Synopsis: What would you do if your town was sliding underwater and everyone was ordered to pack up and leave?

Keeley Hewitt and her friends decide to go out with a bang. The goal is to make the most of every minute they still have together. And for Keeley, that means taking one last shot at the boy she’s loved forever. There’s a weird sort of bravery that comes from knowing there’s nothing left to lose. You might do things you normally wouldn’t. Or say things you shouldn’t. The reward almost always outweighs the risk.

It’s the end of Aberdeen, but the beginning of Keeley’s first love story. It just might not turn out the way she thought. Because it’s not always clear what’s worth fighting for and what you should let become a memory.

  • The blurb and and cover (swoon-worthy) really intrigued me. And wow, did you realize how all 4 books so far are all published on April 26? This can’t be a coincidence (Sherlock Mode: Activated).

Arrow2 - CopyNumbersKing’s Folly by Jill Williamson

Published Date: April 5, 2016

Genres: Fantasy

Synopsis: The gods are angry.

Volcanic eruptions, sinkholes, ground shakers–everything points to their unhappiness. At least that is what the king of Armania believes. His son, Prince Wilek, thinks his father’s superstitions are nonsense, though he remains the ever dutiful heir apparent to the throne.

When a messenger arrives and claims that the town of Farway has been swallowed by the earth, the king sends Wilek to investigate. But what Wilek discovers is more cataclysmic than one lost city. Even as the ground shifts beneath his feet, Wilek sets out on a desperate journey to save his people and his world. But can he do it before the entire land crumble?

  • Something about this book pulled me in. I’m not sure what, but I guess we just need to find out when I get my lil chubby hands on it. 😉

    1. Yea, I think it’s book one of a series. I heard of it from a subscription email (I don’t even remember which publisher it was from, shame on me XD ). Goodreads lists it under Christians Fantasy, and my face was like “Wut?!?” Man, I was confused… But oh well, it sounds like a great fantasy book, so I really want to give it a try. 🙂 It does sound crazingly good, I agree!

        1. I was a bit reluctant with that too. Though I don’t think it’s like hardcore religion or sth. It’s more like Narnia, I think. Have hidden signs of religion and all… I just got it in the mail (coincidence! XD) and it looks good when I flipped through it.
